19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial title after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first professional title, gained dominance to create a third set.

He saved four early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
