World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball reported this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
